November 21, 2024, 6:30pm - 8:30pm
Zoo Miami Front Entry - Florida Room
Marisa is a Miami native and went to the University of Florida for her Batchelor and Veterinary degrees. She also attended the Santa Fe Community College Teaching Zoo in Gainesville. After finishing an internship at the Coral Springs Animal Hospital, she moved to Ithaca, NY for a residency in Wildlife and Zoological Medicine at Cornell University. After three years of living in the snow, she decided to move back to Miami to be closer to family, and worked in various wildlife centers and zoos throughout Florida for five years before becoming an Associate veterinarian at Zoo Miami. She recently completed courses at the Chi University in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine and hopes to continue expanding her knowledge to offer more diagnostic and treatment options to her cases.
Marisa Bezjian has been an associate veterinarian at Zoo Miami for 8 years, and joined the tree kangaroo SSP in 2018. In 2021, she organized the One Health objectives to help start the tree kangaroo AZA SAFE program. Through these commitments, she was able to join the Woodland Park Zoo’s lead biologist, Dr. Lisa Dabek, with the Tree Kangaroo Conservation Program (TKCP) on a field trip to Papua New Guinea in October 2023. Today she will be speaking about the TKCP and her trip to Papua New Guinea to work with free ranging Matschie’s tree kangaroos and to help with human health clinics and water quality testing as One Health objectives.
