The Sea Turtle Hospital is Zoo Miami’s newest conservation effort to help familiar faces in our own Miami-Dade neighborhood. Our local waters are home to endangered loggerhead, green, Kemp’s ridley, hawksbill and leatherback sea turtles. Each is considered a “keystone species” with a big impact on their environment and the wildlife they share it with.

Unfortunately, hundreds of sea turtles are found with injuries and illnesses each year. They suffer viruses, boat strikes, predator attacks, tangles with fishing gear and plastic trash, impactions, and can be cold stunned. In the past, turtles found off the Miami-Dade coastline had to be transported to Marathon or Boca Raton. Turtles can now come to Zoo Miami for world-class care and rehabilitation from our veterinary team.
